This month, Pathways Spryfield hosted their very first alumni reunion, bringing together Pathways graduates from various cohorts for a nostalgic homecoming celebrating their journeys and successes.
For the Pathways Spryfield team, it was important that the event be held in an accessible venue in Spryfield, not just for alumni who still reside in the neighbourhood, but even for those who have since moved. Reuniting at a local restaurant created a warm sense of coming back to the community, and this was amplified as alumni enjoyed dinner seated at one long family-style table, among those that all shared the common experience of graduating from the same Pathways Program.
Danielle Truen, a key member of the Pathways Spryfield team that organized the event, knew she wanted the evening to remind alumni of the bonds they had built and to recognize the support they still have among each other. “It’s really for them to come back and see the successes they had, but to also look at Pathways and realize that they’re what will continue to make the program successful,” Danielle emphasizes. “By continuing to be part of Pathways, they’re the reason why we can keep moving forward.”
During the event, local Alumni Ambassadors reflected on the importance of staying connected with alumni from a variety of different cohorts, underscoring how ongoing mentorship will help guide young people toward success, even beyond their graduation from high school.
This gathering to celebrate alumni’s collective achievements helped illustrate their individual impact in shaping the bright futures of not only Pathways Spryfield graduates, but a community that extends nationwide. “It was so rewarding to see the light they have in them because of how happy they are with their lives,” Danielle shares. “By highlighting the achievements of these alumni, it highlights what the program does. It shows the importance of just how having somebody in your corner can transform into something so much bigger beyond you.”
